awesome! exactly what I was looking for, the chords are spot on as well!

alex April 7, 2010 at 1:54 am

some alternate chords (for people with shorter fingers or who are just starting out) are;

C (instead of E), G (instead of C#m), Am (instead of B), and F (instead of A).

these chords work, but yes your version is definitely more true to the song. thanks for sharing~!

Liv April 13, 2010 at 4:04 pm

Kyla April 14, 2010 at 3:12 pm

Mikael May 14, 2010 at 4:22 am

I prefer to strum like this:

D D U |stop ringing| U D U

Bethan May 15, 2010 at 1:56 am

Thanks these are brilliant.
The strumming pattern you posted seems to work best in my opinion :)

barcelona May 16, 2010 at 12:37 am

dude! the “hey souls sister. . .” part it’s so hard :S

cc May 24, 2010 at 10:34 am

is there a different strumming patter for the chorus?

iHannah May 26, 2010 at 3:04 am

If anyone’s finding that c#m chord a bit awkward you can just play it like this:

-4-|—|—|—|
-4-|—|—|—|
-4-|—|—|—|
—|—|-6-|—|

its a lot easier and sounds the same and that way you dont have to initially learn it in a different key if youre finding it tough :)

Victoria May 26, 2010 at 12:40 pm

WOW !
that was great(: thanks.
i found what i was looking for in one try!!
keep it up !
(can you also do the chords for lucky by jasonM. and banana pancake by jack? that would be GREAT ! )

Lara May 27, 2010 at 1:17 am

hey insted of a c#m it’s supposed to be a c flat m so that it goes up, but it is easier to play a c#m! a cflatm is all of the 4th fret and the top string on the 6th fret! hope that helps!! :)

aj May 29, 2010 at 1:34 pm

thanks!! this is greattt!!
but i’m confused about the chorus… what’s the strumming pattern for it?

bryce May 29, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Keiran May 30, 2010 at 7:16 pm

Wow, this rocks! Thanks iHannah, that just makes way more sense.

Man, that chorus is quicky tricky. Woo fun!

Jay June 3, 2010 at 7:15 pm

i need help with the stumming pattern for the chorus please.

Help!?!?!?!

i need to learn this song by Sat. and the only thing i cant do is the chorus…. anything would help.

thanks!

Kunal June 8, 2010 at 4:47 pm

great chords! amazing…
but if you’re having trouble with the C#minor you can do a C#m7 which is 4444 across making the E-C#m transition a little easier…but simply great!

Lollie June 15, 2010 at 6:10 pm

Tricky but fun! I so hope to get better at this song so i can do it for my uke assesment in year 10 music class!

Alyson July 2, 2010 at 3:02 am

OMG this is totally perfect!!!! i got the song down in a hour and a half!!!! thank you so much!! this means alot!!! alyson <3

kitkat July 6, 2010 at 10:34 am

great!! just what i needed!! =)

pompom July 6, 2010 at 5:07 pm

i was wondering the strumming pattern is it D – D U D U D U | D – D U D U D U but when it has the dash or whatever do u pause/mute or what

pompom July 7, 2010 at 8:02 am

do u do the strumming part for every note or what

ambroise. July 8, 2010 at 8:05 am

How do you play this? How do you do a ‘U’

Kris July 21, 2010 at 11:26 am

is there an easier way to play the e chord? i have big fingers so on a soprano uke hitting the second fret on the e tab is really difficult

||||||| July 23, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Heyyyyy just to help the sound…

Instead of the E chord shown up there, in the very beginning try playing this version of E (E5 or something) and then go to the regular E shown on this site a few strums after:

________
| | | | 1 (Fret number)
| | | O 2
| | | | 3
O O | | 4
________
3 2 1
(finger numbers)

I think it sounds more like the sound on the radio soooo yeah…hope it helps :3

||||||| July 23, 2010 at 4:36 pm

Here’s a better diagram of E5:
__________
|–|–|–|–|
|–|–|–|-1|
|–|–|–|–|
|-3|-2|–|–|

lol Hope this helps

Howlee July 24, 2010 at 2:56 am

iHannah +1! Much easier transition from B to that C#m than the one listed. Sounds better too.

Howlee July 24, 2010 at 2:59 am

Oh, and just play along with the YouTube video to figure out the strumming… you can watch him do it.

SpecialK July 27, 2010 at 1:31 am

@Kris: There is an easier E chord:
|-|-|-|-|
|-|-|-|-|
|-|-|-|-|
|1|1|1|1|
|-|-|-|-|
|-|-|-|-|
|-|-|-|4|

If you use iHannah’s C#m, then it’s an easy slide transition between E, B and C#m since you’re barring all three.

Natalie July 28, 2010 at 1:29 pm

DDU,UDUDDU,UDUDDU,UDUDDU

madad July 29, 2010 at 12:04 pm

i strum it like this d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-

Juli July 29, 2010 at 10:14 pm

what is the real strumming????????????

Danny August 2, 2010 at 6:36 pm

It is d d dudud… Everyone said it and on train videos it is obvious… There y’all go.

Nacho August 4, 2010 at 7:54 pm

Thank you for this. Very straight forward and easy to follow. Four chords with smooth transition, I havent played in a very long time so the fingers and hand started to cramp up but looking forward to getting back into jamming! I also like the variation of the C#m as well – Cheers for the help 8 )

Jessie August 15, 2010 at 12:54 am

toni November 8, 2010 at 3:29 am

I’ve only just started learning the ukulele, and it is so fun!!!
this came in so helpful to leaning it quicker :D

Aeio November 16, 2010 at 4:30 pm

(E)->(C)
(B)->(G)
(C#m)->(Am)
(A)->(F)
This is how I replaced the chords and it sounded pretty good. When I tried alex’s replacements it didn’t sound like hey soul sister. +this is easier
